The autumn of 2021 ended with a series of events who desired to address in 9 communities the relevance of a structured, European strategy to develop and improve the rural tourism, organized under Escape2 project timeline.
These events were organized by the partners of Escape2 project and targeted the priorities revealed during the interviews with local stakeholders from HORECA, among which, we can find in top 3 the poor development of touristic services, few policies that aim to increase the tourism sector and the law level of awareness among local population regarding present heritage.
The covid crisis has therefore become an opportunity for rural tourism. Due to the spread of the virus, many companies have encouraged remote working. People were forced to stay at home and from there they tried to do as much as possible activities in open-air places: work, play sports, cook and dine, "travel" through virtual tours of the city, for example, and many other activities that they carried out before the health emergency " moving ".
These events had a wider focus on creating connections between local products and actors directly involved in regional economy. With examples from the other countries of integrating good practices to explore the rural tourism, the participants debate about online tools to increase rural tourism or mixing activities to boost the economic support during more periods of the year and many more other examples provided during local research.
The handcraft represents, still, a key point for rural tourism which would be integrated in the strategy to develop this area, because visitors are looking more for discovering local traditions and products, the latest especially because they are more eco-friendly than some products found in big cities.  Moreover, the places which promote the natural beauty, have a wider potential to reach a high visibility, by their power to be promoted in Social Media.
The multiplier events from Escape2 project, gathered more than 180 persons directly involved in rural economy which could become main pillars in developing rural tourism. The conclusion of these events are that the rural region are able to provide several types of activities, for tourists who deserve to rest, eat well, discover the culture or have various sportive activities, as biking, boat rides, long walks, etc.

Description

12/7/2021

The general objective of the ESCAPE2, COLLECT NATIONAL DATA FOR THE CREATION OF AN INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY FOR RURAL TOURISM is to detect the specific needs of the national territories involved in the transnational partnership, mapping the good practices and the aspects that need to be ameliorated.

The collected information will represent the starting point for the elaboration of an international strategy that aim to increase the rural tourism progress at European level. This strategy is designed for those who want to become more sustainable; increase tourism numbers, be competitive in their field, improve local tourism productivity and employability without impacting socio-cultural assets or damaging their environment.

  • Rural tourism stakeholders are invited to participate from the onset to ensure they are aware and part of the development of this innovative transnational sustainable rural tourism strategy that is tailored to their specific needs.
  • It will highlight tourism best practices in rural and slow tourism experiences so that they can practically learn and implement similar solutions. According to TourismTeacher, slow tourism is a concept that promote the travelling for a longer period in a slow pace
  • Beneficiaries will analyse their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks better so that they can manage and become more sustainable. This will ensure rural tourism remains a key competitive sector in the European tourism offering.
